BCU UKCC 2 Star Award Syllabus

The BCU Two Star is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddlesport skills on flat water. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the boat and developing an understanding into how the paddle, boat and water interact.

This is an improvement award, after which a paddle will be confident paddling and rescuing others on flat water.

The award is obtained by taking the assessment in both a kayak and a canoe (Appropriate aspects will be assessed in either kayak/canoe). Any style of boat is permissible e.g. open cockpit, sit on top, V or flat bottomed hull etc. Where a doubles crew takes the test, each person must perform each task from both the bow and sterm

Candidates must be able to swim 25m wearing a Buoyancy Aid.

Have experience of paddling two different craft: eg surf kayak, closed cockpit kayak, open cockpit kayak, closed / open canoe, racing boat, tandem boat, wave ski, sit on top, flat hulled boat, v-hull boat, slalom boat, polo or sea kayak in 2 different locations e.g. Canal, river, lake / loch, sea (two different parts of large bodies of water will count as 2 locations) and in 2 local competitions or 2 journeys of 2 hour duration

Forthcoming Courses

Any dates on demand, just let us know your requirements.

All courses will only run if we attract the minimum workable numbers.

Kayak and Canoe

The new BCU UKCC endorsed courses are a combined canoe AND kayak award at the 1 and 2 star level. After this, you specialise in your prefered type of craft for the 3,4 and 5 Star Awards.

The BCU (British Canoe Union) is the governing body for canoeing and kayaking and as such issue the nationally recognised qualifications in these disciplines. The star awards range from one to five and are prerequisites for anybody interested in the BCU coaching courses.
