BCU UKCC 1 Star Award Syllabus

The BCU One Star is a flat water award that demonstrates an individual has basic boat control and foundation skills. The one star can be taken in any kind of paddlesport craft (e.g. sit-on-top, slalom C2, polo boat, sea kayak, racing canoe etc.)

The 1 Star is a clear stepping stone to becoming a paddler. Designed as a basic award, the one star is the level people would typically reach after an introduction course of six hous quality water time.

The award is obtained by taking the assessment in any style of kayak or canoe (where the test is taken by a doubles crew, a variation of bow and stern positions must be demonstrated).

Candidates must be water confident and ideally should be able to swim. This is desirable but not essential. If under 14 the learning program of Paddle Power might br more appropriate.

Forthcoming Courses

Any dates on demand, just let us know your requirements.

All courses will only run if we attract the minimum workable numbers.

Kayak and Canoe

The new BCU UKCC endorsed courses are a combined canoe AND kayak award at the 1 and 2 star level. After this, you specialise in your prefered type of craft for the 3,4 and 5 Star Awards.

The BCU (British Canoe Union) is the governing body for canoeing and kayaking and as such issue the nationally recognised qualifications in these disciplines. The star awards range from one to five and are prerequisites for anybody interested in the BCU coaching courses.
